Oh, the Imperfection of Great Perfection

What would you do when you find out you could be as awesome as Einstein or the guy who invented blender's? You'd be super enthusiastic, right? Well TOO late! If you are reading this blog (provided that you CAN read) than it's too late to attain this perfection; you may have already gained several billions of cells. Before reading the whole of this huge boring post, you should remember and take into account my stem cell post because some problems there have transferred here. Take my first point... which is not in this video itself, but in the debating comments.

In Gattaca, the people were all higher than normal, yet also normal in the state that they behaved. Vincent in the beginning was viewed as a degenerate because he was suprisingly born. We see how Anton's not-so-suprising appearence can give him a chance to be genetically modified and to be claimed as a "designer baby". All in all, this process (PGD) to enhance and destroy imperfect cells (diseases) would surely create the "perfect" being in body, but we forget a LOT. The way the child reacts, and views things is way different, but on to my main point of this paragraph. Christians go insane if this topic were to be brought to their attention. I'm not saying that this is a bad thing, but I like Science vs. God debating.

By creating designer babies right now, imperfection in body will be a huge problem among degenerates who were not born through PGD. The main quote that the church will be using would be that "nobody is perfect" clause. This is like a house of 10 jurors and 1 says this to halt the procedure of judging. This is a VERY conflicting process; even more conflicting then the use of stem cells. Now we should look at things through a different angle. How about the lives of adults now who have not been perfected and probably NEVER will. I mean, say you had skin cancer and then sitting next to you is a man who went through PGD as a child. Yeah, that would suck. Equality after going for this situation will not be the same.

Since we probably covered the main social and ethical implications, I would like to state my weird view. One side of me states that if this process DOES make it mainstream, then I and many others may not rest seeing that Bob the baby will achieve a more better future than I will have. Yes, logic can be impacted as well. I support it as well as I do not agree with the Church for nearly every sungle debate because honestly... they probably will say their one problem and then whine. I do not want them to win. Religion to me is meh... I don't hate what they believe, but they're being such fundamentalists. The last point that Gattaca pointed at would be the much brighter future where it is so futuristic and organized. The possibilities of what mankind can achieve will be endless once this risk has been taken.

The sacrifices and possibilities of this concept of having the perfect baby make life seem brighter, yet gloomier at the same time. Having one looking down on you because you are a degenerate is unfortunately something to watch for in this weird procedure which somehow branches to cloning traits and inputting them to cells which are only premature. This debate has lead me and probably many others at the sideroads. The title of the blog may make one assume that I detest designer babies, but it has so much to offer. It might be something that can change the social structures and behaviours of people in the future. One day however, there will be a degenerate who will defeat this perfect person; this might finally prove to the church that they were right in a sort of way, but we were also right, much more right.
